Connecticut Alliance Against Diesel Pollution

Background

In 2004 ENE launched the Connecticut Alliance Against Diesel Pollution (CAADP), the first such coalition to form around diesel concerns in New England. Working with our coalition partners, ENE developed materials and organized events to educate and solicit support from grassroots, health, and other community groups. We developed a platform and straw proposals for maximizing emissions reductions on school buses, establishing standards for transit buses and state-funded construction vehicles, and creating a Diesel Risk Mitigation Fund to defray the costs of pollution control equipment.

In 2005 the CT Legislature demonstrated national leadership by passing SA 05-7, calling upon state government to create a plan for reducing emissions from diesel vehicles 75% by 2015. CAADP supports the full implementation of such a plan, which would save thousands of lives, improve the health and well-being of Connecticut residents, and help mitigate global warming.

In 200? ENE successfully advocated for reduced emissions from a major construction project in New Haven, the Q-bridge I-95 New Haven Crossing Corridor Improvement Project. ENE used the Connecticut Clean Air Bid Specification to advocate for enhanced emission control requirements.
