Eastern Canada Energy Reform

Background

A key component of ENE's mission is to address environmental issues in the bioregional context of the Northeast and Eastern Canada, recognizing that the two regions share a common air shed and ocean, and trade extensively in timber, fish, and energy. The Climate Change Roadmap includes extensive research on energy problems, trends and solutions for Eastern Canada. ENE has also participated in several workshops and environmental meetings or panels held by the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG-ECP) and provided recommendations for policy actions that can help the region meet its near- and long-term climate goals. ENE has opened an office in Charlottetown, PE and is working to strengthen and expand ENE's partnerships with Eastern Canadian advocates and officials, including the Atlantic Canada Sustainable Energy Coalition. Collaborative efforts in the energy sector include establishing well-funded efficiency programs and exploring infrastructure issues in the Northeast and their potential environmental and economic implications for the states and provinces.
