Rhode Island

ENE kicked off work in Rhode Island by creating a coalition of stakeholders and state policy makers to develop comprehensive energy reform legislation for the state. Within a year, the proposed bill was signed into law and became an important precendent for energy policy throughout the region. Energy

ENE teamed with a group of diverse stakeholders including environmental advocates, utility representatives, business representatives, known as the POWER coalition, to draft and pass comprehensive legislation. ENE is now helping the state implement features of the legislation, such as a natural gas efficiency fund and a planning and procurement process that emphasizes the purchase of cost-effective efficiency and other demand-side resources. Diesel

ENE is one of the leaders of the Rhode Island Diesel Pollution Initiative (RIDPI), a coalition of environmental, health and community groups that advocates for reducing toxic diesel pollution to protect public health and reduce the threat of global warming. RIDPI's successes include passing anti-idling law and a law calling for retiriement of the state’s dirtiest buses and installing pollution control devices on the remaining fleet.
